I love your flower sketches and hope you do some more.
It is very helpful for others (me included) to learn sketching by your examples.
If you are done with you novels maybe you like to do a book on sketching...

Thanks, Bridgette. I did this sitting in the back yard next to some marigold planted in a cemetery
urn-like container in our driveway. I was playing with some new pens we got. The power had been turned off in our house because the electrical workers were working on it. So I sat and "traced" (fee-hand) the images I saw before me. That is, I pretended to trace them. I imagined myself tracing the flowers--but then I just sort of scribbled int he leaves because we had to leave.

I'm not done with my novels yet and I do not consider myself an expert at sketching! I consider myself a raw beginner!!!!

that should say "free-hand"

You sound self-deprecating because if you could see my sketches you would know what a 'beginner' is :-)

Seriously, I can make sketches with a black pencil or coal (which gives all kinds of shades) but when I add colour the picture looks more like the pictures I made as a schoolgirl (30 years ago!)

Oops, So sorry I spelled your name wrong, Brigitte!

I think the best way to learn anything is by doing it, and practice practice practice leads toward perfection.

Have you ever tried left-hand (or non-dominant hand drawing? It helps develop the eye so you truly see what's there. (Talk about child drawings! But it's the training that helps.

You are right about the practicing :-)

I can write and draw with both hands, my only problem is to find the right colour match...

Sometimes I try to hard and want to do it so perfectly it gets out of control... and at the end I made a disaster of a beginning beauty...
Really crazy... I think not everyone is talented to draw with colours... that's why I like your pictures, you show an easy way to make a great effect with only a little bit true colour.

And I think you could really make a great teaching book because the books I know are all 'way too perfect.'
They are complicated and for masters in the art...

WOW! That must be really cool to be able to write and draw with both hands--I wish I could do that. My attempts at drawing with my left hand look like a child of about six or 5 did it. But it does increase the attention!!!!

I just reached the words "the end" in my sequel to Frog haven called Saving Morgan Mountain.

I would feel like a real fraud to try to write a boo on drawing, but maybe I could write some thoughts on my approach to it sometime.

It would have to be called "The Beginner's Mind and Drawing" or something like that.

I can be a terrible perfectionist, but, I can also set it aside. Otherwise, I wouldn't draw at all.
