Through the Trellis (ox-eye daisy)

Through the Trellis (ox-eye daisy), by Mary Stebbins Taitt. This did
not scan well, so I was attempting to fix it in photoshop and art
rage, but I've decided it probably isn't a good candidate for that. I
like it on paper (A4 size [8.5 x 11]), but no matter how I try to fix
it on-line, it doesn't look the same as it does on paper. It's a
water color background with an oil flower, which gives it texture and
depth, but that doesn't translate well to digital imaging.

Very interesting to combine water colour with oil painting!

This is a picture which would be lovely as letter or greeting card.
I love the colours and the single flower.

Very beautiful Mary.

I do make greeting cards. Though not with this one yet.

The idea of combining the two was to have transparency and texture.

I made my first paintings with oil and used my fingers because I love to feel the paint.

Two years ago I was experimenting with Acrylics which give you the opportunity to dilute it so you can paint transparent and you are also able to leave it thick like oil paint or even use sand, paper, fabric or other materials for molding.

But Acrylic doesn't smell good.
My granddad used to mix his own oil colours but I must say in his time he used very toxic things...

Still, I love oil colours best.

I love playing with all of them. Oils are best used en pleine aire. But they have such a nice creamy texture!!

and their colors are more earthy and natural.
